 Granddaddy

I would like to use this page to honor my granddaddy.  Granddaddy passed away on April 26, 2008 after a short battle with cancer.  I miss him and think of him every day.  You see, there wasn't anything my granddaddy couldn't fix.  He worked on anything that people needed to be fixed; cars, lawn mowers, washing machines, dryers, plumbing, electrical, roofing and anything else people brought to him.  Granddaddy worked at the Wilmington ship yards during WW 2 and at the Olympia Mill as a loom mechanic until he retired.  The most amazing thing about him was that he would take the time to show me how to do those things, as well.  I can remember when I was little, I would go over to his house and help him "work".  He had the patience to show my small hands how to work.  He wouldn't just give me money, he showed my hands how to earn the money I needed.  He made me work for it.  It is a valuable lesson that I still use today.  Over the past twelve years he would come to the shop and check on me.  We would sit and talk about life and what was going on around the shop.  I cherish those memories so much.  I thank him for what he taught me and everything that he did for me.  I hope that when I become a granddaddy, I  can pass those lessons on to my grandkids.

Granddaddy, I love you and miss you!  I know I will see you one day again.        Love, Eric.
